  Hydrophobic Properties
Friction reduction of water through a 4-inch hydraulic pipe
(As measured by the Institute of Hydraulic Research at the University of Iowa.)

Testing

  • Testing conducted by the Institute of Hydraulic Research at the University of Iowa on 4-inch diameter pipe distinctly demonstrated that water velocity is accelerated when the inside of pipes is coated with Wearlon.
  • Tests at the University of Buffalo comparing Wearlon coatings to that of conventional epoxies used in marine clearly demonstrated that less drag resistance can be obtained when Wearlon coatings are used.
  • ASTM 3623 marine tests of Wearlon products at Battelle Labs have concluded, resulting in the adoption of Wearlon by the US Navy for its superior abrasion and excellent hydrophobic properties.
Results
  • As reported in Hydro Review magazine, Wearlon is credited for increasing the hydroelectric output by numbers as high as 8% at the Gananoque Light and Power Facility.
  • Wearlon coatings, in particular Speed Coat-49, offer the potential for boats and vessels to move at a higher speed through water, as well as reducing gasoline consumption. This is becoming an attraction to watercraft racers and racing teams.

Wearlon PM2020.98

Medium Silicone Water Based Top Coat

Surface Preparation: Wearlon 2020.98 is a silicone-epoxy having unique release properties coupled with a broad range of adhesion capabilities to various substrates.  Wearlon 2020.98 has excellent adhesion when applied to Wearlon 2020.90 Primer or over other approved epoxy primers.  Follow manufacturer’s instructions for the primer, then top coat with Wearlon 2020.98.  For immersion service use an approved immersion service epoxy primer. (Steel: SSPC 10.  Aluminum: SSPC 7.  Fiberglass: 80 grit sand.  Concrete: 28 day minimum cure and power wash using acid etch or shot blast.)

Mixing Instructions: Before mixing, shake or stir each component until homogenous.

Wearlon 2020.98  is a 2 component product packaged in 1 Gallon and 5 Gallon kits which contain the proper ratio of ingredients. The entire contents of each container should be mixed together.

For quantities less then the pre-packaged kit mix as follows: To 11 parts of the A component mix in 2 parts of the B component. Mix the A and the B until completely blended.  NO INDUCTION PERIOD NECESSARY...Spray or Roll immediately.

Thinning and Clean up : In most cases it is not necessary to thin Wearlon 2020.98. If you find it necessary to thin 2020.98 you may add up to  5% DRINKING WATER. Clean up using soap and water while 2020.98  is in an uncured state . For best results clean all equipment as soon as the application is complete. After the material has cured you will need to use solvents to remove the 2020.98.

Application and Recoating : For best results Spray Wearlon 2020.98 with airless Spray equipment. Conventional spray equipment works well and provides a slight orange peel finish. The coating should be applied as a tack coat and follow with the remainder of your total mil thickness within 20 min.  For a greater orange peel effect apply 2020.98 with a short nap Mohair roller or Urethane foam roller. Roll 1 coat then follow with in 30-45 min. with the 2nd coat to achieve your total mil thickness. Wearlon 2020.98 does not stick to it’s self when cured. If you notice fish eyeing as the second coat is applied you have waited too long between coats. Recoat by wiping the coating with Acetone or sand lightly with a Scotch Bright pad wipe off dust then reapply 2020.98. Follow this same process whenever you need to refresh or recoat your 2020.98 top coat.

Wearlon 711 Clear Anti-Graffiti Top Coat

711 Clear Coat

Surface Preparation: 711 is a top coat and should be applied over the approved primer 722.  Follow manufactures instructions for the primer then top coat with 711.  Degrease and clean all painted, brick, or concrete surfaces to be coated. For new applications Steel: SSPC 10, Fiberglass 80 grit sand, Concrete 28 day minimum cure. Power wash, acid etch or brush blast. Aluminum SSPC 7.

Mixing Instructions: Before mixing, shake or stir each component until homogenous.

711  is a 2 component product packaged in 1 Gallon kits which contain the proper ratio of ingredients. The entire contents of each container should be mixed together.

NO INDUCTION PERIOD NECESSARY...Spray or Roll immediately.

Thinning and Clean up : In most cases it is not necessary to thin 711. If you find it necessary to thin 711 you may add up to 5% DRINKING WATER. Clean up is a snap using soap and water while 711  is in an uncured state. For best results clean all equipment as soon as the application is complete. After the material has cured you will need to use solvents to remove the 711.

Application and Recoating: For best results Spray 711 with airless or conventional Spray equipment or use a foam brush or roller and apply in a THIN (0.5 mils d.f.t max.) coat to cover the surface. If applied too thick the coating will cloud.  711 does not stick to it’s self when cured. Recoat by wiping the coating with Acetone or sand lightly with a Scotch Bright pad wipe off dust then reapply 711 Follow this same process when ever you need to refresh or recoat your 711 top coat.

Graffiti Removal: In most cases inside surfaces can be cleaned with a damp sponge. For Paint or Marker use a household bathroom cleaner (Formula 409, Dow scrubbing bubbles etc.). Spray, let sit for 20 seconds and remove with a damp sponge or rag.  For stubborn stains scrub with a nylon bristle brush and wipe clean with a damp sponge or rag. For outside surfaces most graffiti can be removed the same way as inside surfaces. For larger areas power washing will remove most graffiti. Do not exceed 1500 PSI. Applying a diluted alcohol water solution with a garden type sprayer before the power wash will provide easier removal. Sometimes there are those tough to remove paints and markers. When this occurs the use of conventional paint thinners or mineral spirits may be necessary. These can be used without damage to the 711 coating.

Storage : DO NOT FREEZE     Coating Type : Acrylic polyester waterbased   Color : Clear   Pot life : 8 Hours  Shelf Life : 1 Year Induction Time : None Solids :  by Volume 60% Coverage Rate : Approx. 600 sq. ft. @ 0.5 mil DFT   Cure Time : Complete in 2-3 days.  Dry to the touch in 2 hours.
